Curriculum for Excellence Implementing CfE
Implementing CfE
Nationally and locally, colleges are fully involved in the implementation of CfE. The Lead Principal for the curriculum (Graeme Hyslop) sits on the CfE Management Board, a strategic Working Group has been established by the Principals' Convention, two Professional Advisors have been seconded to Scottish Government from the sector, there is college representation on every Scottish Government workstream and Scotland's Colleges continue to offer staff development opportunities for practioners and senior college staff.

A CfE programme framework has been established by Scottish Government. The purpose of the framework is to;

"...better connect the national and local elements of planning and implementation of CfE and to provide local authorities, practitioners and others with information regarding the timescales that we are all working to."

The Principals' Convention CfE Working Group have produced a college-specific version of the framework and the group will continue to update this version in line with Scottish Government amendments to the main framework.

The programme framework explained

Reference to the framework will enable those responsible for the implementation of CfE within colleges to ensure that college plans keep pace with and take account of CfE developments.

The left hand column captures the planned release of national outputs (e.g. the national assessment framework). The final three columns contain CfE-related timelines for the current primary 6, 7 and S1 cohorts. The expectation is that CfE will be progressively adopted in schools with all learners experiencing learning & teaching based on the CfE Experiences & Outcomes.

The middle column headed 'Draft Outline of Activities and Outcomes in Education Centres' provides detailed information on implementation considerations that is being developed further by the ADES led Implementation Partnership. Although the information in this column is school oriented, it is also largely applicable to colleges. The Working Group has added college specific actions to this column to ensure that the information takes account of the college context.
