Pit Stop Challenge

Scotland's Colleges and the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), Go Motorsport, May 2010

The Pit Stop Challenge, organised by the Institute of the Motor Industry, Go Motorsport and Scotland’s colleges brought together students studying motor vehicle subjects from colleges across Scotland. Following a series of regional heats around the country to select the fastest teams of six students the final took place at Knockhill Motor Racing Circuit in Fife during the Scottish Motor Show.

Based around a formula one wheel change the teams had to replace the front wheels on a single seater racing car. The challenge saw intense preparations and practice in the days and weeks leading up to the final and students soon realised that areas such as communication and team work were equally as important as the technical skills needed. Team tactics also played a big part on the day. Just like the real thing!

The eventual winners were from Stevenson College Edinburgh, who thus gained the prize of participating in the SEAT pit stop team during the Grand Prix itself!  The event was a great success and plans are underway to repeat the event next year.
