Glasgow Metropolitan College worked with the Clyde Gateway, the Brigdeton Burns Club and the local community to create a memorial in Bridgeton to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns. A design competition was held with the winning design, by stone masonry student, Alec Keeper being produced by a team of students on the modern apprenticeship course. This provided the students with vital real world experience working on a landmark project.
