Repository for Scotland's colleges

What is a repository?
A repository is an online searchable store for digital content – in a Scotland’s Colleges context that’s learning and teaching content. You can find and preview images, open learning packs, blended learning packages, e-learning objects, handouts, etc. Colleges can contribute learning materials to the repository for Scotland’s colleges and download materials from it.

Who can access the repository for Scotland’s colleges?
The repository is supported by colleges through their membership of Scotland’s Colleges. Arrangements for access to the repository have been devolved to individual member colleges. Some colleges are giving access to all staff and other colleges are channelling access through nominated staff. Your college key contact will be able to advise you on the specific arrangements for your college.

How is access provided?
Authentication for college staff is managed through OpenAthens SP which currently supports Athens and Shibboleth. If you are unable to access through either authentication method contact Scotland’s Colleges.

I've forgotten my repository password, what should I do?
Contact Jackie Graham on Tel: 01786 892031 or e-mail Jackie Graham.

What learning and teaching materials are available in the repository?
All materials that have been developed by COLEG, SFEU/Scotland’s Colleges and by our partnership projects are available. We will also host materials from other organisations, for example SQA and CeLLs (SFC-funded e-transformation project). We are discussing with other organisations how to open up access to their collections, which we know will be of interest to college staff. Older materials will be available in an archive area within the repository.

How are the learning and teaching materials organised within the repository?
Materials are classified in many ways – by SQA unit code, subject, type of material, SCQF level, and many other categories – making it easy to search and find what you want.

How do colleges contribute to the repository?
In each college there is a designated depositor who can upload content on your behalf. As the system develops we will consult with colleges about extending these arrangements.

How can the learning and teaching materials from the repository be used?
Staff in member colleges are free to use the materials in their current form and format, take extracts from them, add their own content to them and adapt or repurpose them for different contexts and learners, as long as the licence conditions of use are respected. You can use the repository materials for any educational purposes, with any learners registered with your college.

Is there a cost for using the repository?
There is no charge for using the repository – the service is provided within the annual subscription paid by colleges.

What training is available?
Scotland’s Colleges can offer both practical sessions and online training to users of the repository who wish to find out more about searching, previewing and accessing the learning materials. Contact Scotland’s Colleges for further information.

How can college staff get involved?
We have run a number of initiatives in 2009 to give college staff the opportunity to work with Scotland’s Colleges to develop, repurpose and contribute materials within and across curricular areas.

For information about the particular arrangements in your college, please check with your college key contact. We’ll make sure that we keep you informed through the website, via email invitations to key contacts and through Subject Networks.
