An Introduction to Visual Impairment in Learners with Learning Disabilities - (30 minutes)

Bill is a professional rehabilitation officer with over 28 years expertise within the field of visual impairment, training and development both in the statutory and voluntary sectors, working closely with people with a variety of complex needs which include both learning and physical disabilities. This half hour webinar will give participants an overview of:
- Prevalence of a visual impairment in people with learning disabilities.
- Link between Learning Disabilities and a visual impairment with particular reference to Downs Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum, Cerebral Palsy and associated learning disabilities
- Considerations for learning, mobility/orientation, using technology
- Resources available: where to get more help and information

Last September, Education Scotland published a subject-based report on the provision of social subjects in Scotland’s Colleges. As part of our webinar series drawing on findings from HMIe reports, HMI Dr John Laird the leader of the task will deliver this event. The purpose will be to reflect on the main findings of the report, engage with practitioners on progress made since publication and look to the future on how we might take forward this provision in colleges. This webinar will be of interest to all practitioners delivering social subjects and we hope you can join us.
