Sponsors the MIS Community of Practice

The MIS Community of Practice represents staff with responsibility for managing the information system within their college, defined as the system which includes SUMS, FES, PIs, student data, estates information, Health and Safety information, course information and staffing information. It is open to all colleges no matter which MIS system is used. The key purpose of the MIS CoP is to assist MIS staff to make an impact on college life. The steering group meetings focus on planning and organising the agenda for the two seminar events and one annual conference per year.

Aims

• to provide an opportunity to identify and share common concerns and seek solutions
• to disseminate and develop good practice
• to clarify roles and responsibilities of MIS Managers
• to generate generic staff development materials such as checklists of tasks/procedures
• to update on SQA, SFC, ASC developments which could affect information systems
• to discuss the information requirements of external and internal customers.

MIS Working Group

The MIS CoP instigated the Scottish Colleges' MIS Working Group, which is working with the SQA, to address issues relevant to Scotland's colleges. The MIS Working Group has a sector-wide operational focus on issues that affect colleges whereas the SQA Operational Forum has a sector-wide strategic focus on issues that affect colleges.

The MIS working Group membership includes: SQA staff, Chairs of both CAPITA and SITS User Groups and representatives of the college sector who are based at colleges who use CAPITA and SITS.
