Secretary to the Board CoP |
|
The Secretary to the Board Community of Practice represents Secretaries and Clerks to Boards of Management in Scotland's colleges. It is co-ordinated by a steering group which meets regularly. The CoP has benefited from a series of seminars focused specifically on the needs of Secretaries to Boards and steering group members have been involved in drafting guidelines for self-evaluation for Boards as well as the guide for Board Members.
Aims
- to provide a forum for Board Secretaries/Clerks (and those working closely with these staff) to meet to exchange information, network, provide a specialist perspective and to undertake professional debate on a range of issues relating to the role of the Board Secretary in colleges across Scotland
- to encourage, devise and support continuing professional development activity for members
- to act as a consultative body on agreed topics
- to establish links and strong working relationships with other CoPs, with the aim of sharing information and expertise and providing opportunities for joint activity
- to foster personal development and external awareness of the sector through links with stakeholders, professional bodies and individuals, both nationally and internationally.
The steering group acts in an advisory capacity and aims to:
- consider the development needs of Secretaries to the Boards of colleges in Scotland taking into account any legislative developments
- identify appropriate methods of fulfilling these needs
- encourage collaboration and promote best practice
- advise on Board of Management training and development.
