The Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring aims to provide team members and tutors with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as coaches as part of their normal work role. Tutors and those in a support role for learners will enhance their skills throughout the programme. In addition the award will move delegates towards being equipped for a development role within their organisations. Materials will be customised to reflect the delegates' circumstances.

The Certificate is a concise qualification made up of three sections which introduce the key aspects of coaching:
- Understand the concept and purpose of management coaching and mentoring.
- Be able to determine the use of management coaching and mentoring as a tool in human resources development.
- Understand the relationship between coaching and mentoring and organisational objectives. Support is offered by experienced coaching staff through face-to-face and telephone sessions.
Aims
The Level 5 award aims to develop further communication, relationship, management and performance skills for the benefit of all stakeholders. Delegates will leave with their own plan of action and lots of ideas and techniques to use coaching in their day-to-day work.
Successful programme completion will equip delegates with the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to use Coaching Skills effectively within their employment context.
Objectives
The programme is designed to enhance delegates' skills and understanding in:
- The skills and attributes of a great coach
- Using coaching effectively
- The role of coaching in learning
- Improving communication in the workplace
- Developing and managing effective teams through coaching
- Coaching for improved performance
- Overcoming barriers to good performance
- Effective goal setting through coaching
- Planning a coaching session
- Introducing coaching in the workplace
- The importance of supervision in coaching
- Developing a coaching culture within delegates' areas of responsibility.
Certification
There will be an opportunity to gain the CMI Level 5 Award in Management Coaching and Mentoring.
Assessment
Assessment will be through the use of a Coaching Diary and a work-based assignment of 2,500-3,000 words.
Delivery
The programme will adopt a blended learning approach via a range of options:
- Workshop sessions
- Guided, work-based learning assignment
- On-line forum
- Supervised coaching practice session
- Reflective coaching diary
Duration
The programme will be based around one full day (6 hours) workshop plus two half day (three-hour) follow-up sessions and an observed coaching session in the workplace over a six-month period.
