BBC has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Europeana Foundation, the Open Data Institute, the Open Knowledge Foundation and the Mozilla Foundation, supporting free and open internet technologies. BBC news – 25 November 2013.
Digital footprints and identities
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has recently released a report called 'Digital footprints and identities' that provides very timely information about how online users manage their digital identities. The report is timely because the use of online services, especially in education, is increasing and the amount of information that a person enters about themselves online remains as a ‘digital footprint’ for access at any time in the future. A carefully managed online identity can reduce an individual’s online vulnerability. 21 November 2013.
The findings underline the need for teachers and lecturers to be aware and students to be taught, the essential elements of carefully managed digital identities and the resultant digital footprints, in order to protect themselves online.
