As lecturers you may find meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse student population a challenge. Consider reworking the way you design and deliver your curriculum to become more ‘inclusive' and you may discover that you do not have to make major changes to the way you currently operate. It is generally accepted that inclusive teaching is good teaching and that this will enhance the experience for all students. The best starting point in designing an inclusive curriculum is to assume that some students on your course will not have disclosed a hidden disability. This is particularly true for students with mental health problems. One of the main points to consider in terms of designing learning and teaching methods is to reduce student anxiety. This will be beneficial for all students but particularly for students with mental health problems.
