Why Promote Mental Health?
Current legislation and policy in Scotland requires colleges/universities to take appropriate responsibility for fostering and promoting good mental health.

A pro-active approach is needed to foster positive mental health by making effective arrangements so that everyone in the college/university benefits.

There must also be policies in place to make certain that those with mental health problems are appropriately supported.

We aim to offer information and support to help you not only meet legal requirements but also foster good mental health and support students experiencing mental distress.

As well as fulfilling legal responsibilities, the promotion of good mental health and well being has important advantages for colleges and universities.
  • Positive mental health strategies improve student and staff performance
  • There is a strong correlation between mental and physical health and well being
  • The whole organisation functions more effectively when mental health is promoted
The Mental Health Foundation produces information about student mental health.
